Hi Gangue,
It's been snowing on and off sinec Thursday here, so we ended up with
around a foot of snow (about 30 cms) in and around Central Scotland.
We got the new Pajero (new to us) on Friday, never thought I was going
to find out how it was in 4WD quite as quickly, but we were due to go
away for the weekend to a "log cabin" at Drimsynie Estate near to
Lochgoilhead in the Argyllshire Highlands. We set off ok from Edinburgh,
but we had to use the 4WD for around the last 35 Km and we had to use
4WD plus the low range and all the locked differentials for the very
last 5 Km into the estate.
We had a great weekend with the grandchildren and our family once there
though. Went Ice Skating, Curling (like bowls on Ice, a Scottish and
maybe Canadian/American game), went to a Dinner Dance, saw cabaret in
the Complex Centre, swimming walking. Now totally exhausted and neeed to
go to work for a rest (grin VBG 8>} ) For Ron, really pleased with the
machine, seems to be really good at it's job, ended up starting two
other visitors off a jump start, and towing one out of a snow drift!)
On the Arachne front, I'm still playing with the ASF script without too
much success or failure, it just doesn't work as well as it used to in
earlier versions, and THAT's a NO NO Michael! Trouble is, i've gone
through so many variations in trying to get it to work, if I do ever
make it go correctly, I'll probably forget how I managed it.
Foot and Mouth disease spreading even as I type this, now over 60
confirmed cases. A question for the list. Is this a problem for the US
and Canada, other countries? There's not much information coming out
about how the rest of the world deals with this problem, or even how
much of a problem it is. A farm about 40 Km from us sees results
to-morrow of tests on 2600 animals, if positive, all will eb destroyed
and burned. A terrible way to deal with any disease, and very
dis-heartening for the farmers concerned.
On the caravanning side, all our weekend camping rallies are now
cancelled till further notice to avoid spreading any contamination
further. There are worries about the wild red deer population also, and
access to the local range of hills (about 5 km away) has been blocked to
avoid it spreading to the two deer herds, one Red Deer, the other Fallow
Deer and the few Wild Goats we have.
Ella sends regards, and is demanding I finish unloading the sleeping
bags out of the {ajero, so I need to go before it freezes over again.
Take care people, remember the great thing about having Grandchildren is
being able to hand them back when you get fed up ?
Regards
Mel
