How are news messages read?  Is it one Web page per message, which would be much
slower than a straight NNTP download?

Is this also through a Web interface?  I much prefer to compose messages 
offline, where the 15-minute inactivity disconnect clock is not ticking.  I
guess the Web form could be saved as Arachne does, or one could add a 
<base href=...> line if necessary, and prepare the form offline?
