***First off these questions are
for my sisters machine as she knows absolutely NOTHING ;),
about computers, however this is going to be hard to troubleshoot as
she's three hours away, but it's worth a
try.***
She's using an old 14.4 GVC
modem and her ISP is Sprint Canada, we've entered all the information
correctly, however I can only connect at the best, twice a day, I don't have
terminal on but I've tried manually logging on as well and it's the same thing
either way, the "PPP link is down" or something to that affect, but then when it
works it works fine, without me having to change the settings.
I'm thinking that maybe it's
because it's such a slow modem that Arachne is timing out and thus dropping
connection, that's just an assumption of mine as I'm not very knowledgeable when
it comes to Arachne, hence why I'm posting this message.
Also, she's having problems with
her address book as she can't figure out how to add an email address to her
addressbook and I don't have the software so if someone could give me step by
step instructions on how to do that it'd be greatly appreciated. Another
email problem is when she's trying to send her email that she's written it
abruptly stops as to have timed out or something, like I said before I think it
might be because of the slow 14.4 but I'm not 100% sure, she says when the email
is only three or four lines it sends fine, however when she sends a long
email it starts to send but then it stops like I mentioned
above.
Lastly, when I was trying to
download a file from a FTP site after the file is downloaded it opened up the
file and it showed a Notepad file window with a bunch of ASCII
characters, instead of saving the file to my hard drive, and I wasn't sure how
to make Arachne save the file(s) to my hard drive like it usually does after I
download a file off the web.
Well, that's all, I appreciate
all the help all I get, as I'd like to get my sister up and running before she
gets sick of the Internet as I'd like to keep in touch with her through this way
as it's a lot cheaper/easier than a telephone call.
Thanks again
