I don't know what you mean. Horizontal scrolling works exactly the
same as vertical scrolling and seems to be exactly the same speed as
well, at least for me.
Downloading doesn't seem like a problem either. The big problem is
that much of the web has migrated to complicated and unfortunate
graphic schemes and methods that Arachne can't handle yet.

Horizontal and vertical scrolling with Arachne have been slow and clumsy all
along; first Arachne I used was 1.47. Horizontal scrolling is a nuisance with
probably any browser.
How do you make Arachne download without attempting to display? I think there
is a way to download in background, then go fishing in the cache, only sometimes
the fish gets away, at least it did from me once, when I never could find the
2 MB download.

Interestingly, Thomas's posts have often used a line length requiring
horizontal scrolling on a 640x480.

I don't need horizontal scrolling on my own messages, I usually am on a screen
80 characters wide, and I try to keep lines within 80 characters, except when
there is something that is better not broken, such as a long URL.
But I have been able to view much longer lines in Arachne without horizontal
scrolling, since Arachne word-wraps email messages.
from Steven of NZ:
> What about a mini-Linux running from floppy?
When I boot the installation diskettes, Slackware 7.1 or Debian, boot hangs at
"loop: registered device at major 7". I don't know if that's due to faulty
floppy drive interface, or a bug in the Linux kernel possibly related to
Trantor T130B SCSI support. Trying LOADLIN might help answer that question.
DR-DOS boot from drive A is slower than it used to be.

There is also Emacs W3, though I don't know if that is being developed any
further. Arena seems to have fallen into desuetude. Where might I find Galeon?
