To the Grammar Sheriff:
Please let me off with just a stern warning this time. Please
do not publish a citation on the list advising everyone that you
find proper and due cause to accuse me of violating the law
mandating agreement in number (to wit: whether singular or plural)
between subject and predicate in the particular case involving my
most recent post. I am certain that you and others on this list
are not going to let a crime such as this to go unnoticed. I
surely do hope the citizens do not feel that I should be prosecuted
to the full extent of the law. My record of prior offenses would
not indicate that I am such an incorrigible sociopath as to require
confinement in a corrections facility. It was not a flagrant and
deliberate violation designed to challenge authority. It was only
a stupid mistake. I wasn't paying attention. I am sorry and I
promise to dedicate more attention to detail the next time.
