My "normal" Red Hat / partition is at /dev/hda7.
I also have an older Red Hat distribution at
/dev/hda2.
OpenDOS 7.02 is on /dev/hda1 (though I only use
it like 4 or 5 times a year).
Caveat: If you're using an older version of LILO, you
can't boot to anything above the 1024th cylinder...
irrelevant for drives with fewer cylinders than that.
Even on larger drives using older LILO, you could put
/boot on a little 3 MB partition and have the rest of
the heirarchy wherever you want it.
