Slackware comes with many different kernels to choose from.
In Slackware 7.1 are you using the same type of kernel as
you were using previously?

What command are you using when you try to mount the second
hard disk?

I find loadlin.exe more productive than LILO when trying to
sort out such problems. Once everything is up and running
perfectly, LILO can be activated with relative ease.

I don't think the number of the kernel is the problem.
The different Slackware kernels have different capabilities
compiled in (even though they all have the same number).
If you choose the wrong one, you will lack certain capabilites.
