Ah, let us see..
* Games, no I almost never play games. If I play I play 8-bit Nintendo
games or DOOM
* Office, haven't had Office installed on this machine the last 3 years
anyway and hardly ever used it before that
* Internet, since the TCP/IP implementation in Windows 9x is so extremly
bad for my situation (modem, but looks like a 10Mbit net) the DOS and Linux
implementations are atleast 3 times faster, probably more.
* Programs, nah... I seldom use any programs in Win 9x
* MP3, nah... I have never liked WinAMP since it's so demanding
* Multitasking, I hardly ever do more than one thing at once anyway. MP3's
are one but CP can handle quite long (read: concattenated) MP3s now since I
have 256MB RAM
* Digital Camera, haven't tested it yet but gphoto.net is GPL and should
work nicely to download the photos in DOS
* Movies, nope. QV is out in new version (I saw the notice at
www.arachne.cz at work), and "DivX ;-)" is supported (I actually tested it
at work on a Simpsons episode that someone else had downloaded) so bye bye
media player :)
So why do I actually keep the stupid thing? Well, these are the reasons:
* Real Media files, I have many and QV can't (yet?) play them
* LFNs, it is useful as long as I doen't need to type the entire name.
* CD-R, mostly because of LFNs - otherwise Blackhawks CDrWin has a DOS
version (I haven't tested it)
* TV, I want to use my TV-card, there are no program for DOS. However
there's a GPL program for this as well. But I wonder when I'll have time to
port it (and additionally it's for X so I assume it will not be as easy as
I would like it to be).
Well, I'm off to downloading QV now :)
