Arachne's documentation says "Sorry, Arachne doesn't support
WinModems", or something to that effect. Almost all PNP modems
are WinModems. In my experience I have found that I was able
to use Arachne with a couple of different machines having
WinModems by resorting to the following procedure:
First I start up in Windows. Then I click
START > SHUT DOWN > RESTART IN MS-DOS MODE. That works.
With a WinModem I can't run Arachne in a Windows "DOS-box",
nor can I run her in native DOS mode, but restarting Windows in
MS-DOS mode and then trying to run her is OK.
I know this sounds strange, but that is the way WinModems are,
very strange.
