It seems to me that the newsgroups are more accessible than ever,
even if many ISP's are not maintaining full feeds anymore.  Access
is changing rapidly.

For instance, check out newsgroup access from Http://www.google.com

Their aim is to provide access to *every* newsgroup posting ever
posted all the way back to the very begining. And to do this is in
an easily used and searchable format.

Rather disconcerting to know that anything you ever posted in a
momentary lapse of judgement will now be preserved for posterity.
But it's going to be there from now on.

Try doing a search of your name and see what they have. I can't imagine
any possible relevance to fleeting chit chat from six years ago, but
it's preserved now and is easily called up at Google. In fact, it's
probably easier to find at Google than it would be on my own hard-
drive if I had saved copies of my old Usenet postings.
