Of course it has a purpose. Since I only have one IP on the Internet I can
only use one computer without it, now I can use... well I've forgotten what
class my network is but it's enough for what I can possibly see that I'll
ever need. Besides, it frees ups low memory in DOS (no EPPPD loaded on this
machine <g>).

Ah, but it's also much more unsafe. Since the TCP/IP stack isn't inside the
kernel DOS internet programs will be more safe against attacks than the
same programs in Windows and Linux is/would be.

It would replace a switch not a hub ;-) But it would probably be more
costly than a switch (or even a hub) would be.
