Hello:
I just downloaded and installed the latest anti-virus signature
files, dated Sept. 20th, 2001 for F-PROT from
http://www.complex.is/f-prot/
F-PROT Anti-Virus Home Page
Then I scanned my entire hard drive. The program flagged a program
named BOOTC.COM, 5-11-94, 16 bytes, as a "destructive program". I
know that this program has been scanned many times before by many
several previous versions of F-PROT and with many less recent
editions of the anti-virus signature files. BOOTC.COM has never
been flagged before. Also I know it is a perfectly legitimate
program. It came included with the standard download package for my
Terminate BBS program. Running BOOTC.COM just causes my computer to
re-boot, in the same manner as though I had pressed CTRL-ALT-DELETE.
I do not know of any problem with the program. It always works just
fine and it produces only the results I expect. I could find no
information about BOOTC.COM by doing a search on the F-PROT virus
database. Nor could I find any information about the program by
doing a google search. Does anyone have any idea as to why F-PROT
flagged this program as "destructive"? BTW, I have another program
on my computer named WARMBOOT.COM, 8-14-95, 17 bytes. It does the
very same thing as BOOTC.COM. WARMBOOT.COM is not flagged as
destructive. Both programs do the same thing, and neither program
has ever caused a problem.
