Recent additions to BasicLinux:

Midnight Commander especially compiled for
BasicLinux is now available for download.
Only 300kb and it does not require the gpm
lib. Note: Midnight Commander refuses to
use pico, so set EDITOR=e3 (in /etc/profile)
if you wish to edit from within mc.

The instructions for adding X and GCC to
BasicLinux have now been tested many times
and are completely functional. Several
different applications (including mc) have
been successfully compiled in BasicLinux.

The full version of sed has been added to
the install-to-HD package. The mini-sed
in BasicLinux lacked a parameter which
stopped some source code being compiled.

The new make_fd routine is working very
reliably. There are no reports of failure
(unlike the previous routine which had
problems with some hardware). Note: with
the new make_fd, there is room on the
first floppy for the install-to-HD package.
This means that a harddrive installation
of Linux can be done from scratch by using
just two floppies.
