  I use Linux Arachne 4.1.66.  The octagon gifs do have
some noise around the edges, but then, that same noise 
is also displayed in Linux NS 3.04.

  Sunglasses are black here - not transparent - also in 
both browsers.
  ImageMagick says the background color is #c0c0c0.

  He's working on making it more cross-platform than it
presently is.  The Linux version of Arachne has limitations
not present in the DOS version, for instance.  
(Michael migrated to Linux for his main OS quite a while ago)
