I'm learning every day. Followed the discussion on modemspeed and increased the setting to the highest possible speed for the UART in the PC = 115200
Now the connection via the telefone line is MUCH MUCH faster and no breaks any more. Max. modemspeed = 56k but telefoneline much slower. You were right: the speed is not to be set for modem or telephone speed but for communication between modem and computer. A big improvement has been made now!
