It's not built into the website.
It's built into the browser. (it sends the user agent and the referer)
Every webserver can freely log that info.

ALL server _*DO*_ have that feature.
But it comes worse.
Every server from which you load data has it.
(eg if you enter www.company.com and there is an image on this site, which
is on ads.doubleclick.net than doubleclick.net has also your data ...
and it knows from which site you came ... so they can compile a pretty good
file of you.)
If you use a multitasking OS like linux or windows, than you can use 3.
party programs which hide that info.
(junkbuster, atguard, norton inet security ....)
I personally block cookies and the referer, but let the user agent string
pass. (they can know what browser I'm using under what OS, but they do not
know from which site I came)
SH> The truth is that I am a good church-goer.
What has religion to do with the user agent string ??
