Steven, I finally got around to trying Baslinux (again I think)
and I must say your promise that you will be up and running in a minute
turned out to be true.
However, running and DOING anything are two very different things.<G>

I'm not so sure I would have been able to get anywhere if I hadn't had
some slight previous exposure to Linux.

Enough exposure to say the following are GREAT for a newbie:
Dir works !
Help gives help !

Enough exposure to say that using _something_ like links to get you
started and aid in the process of looking around is a great idea !

Enough exposure to hate links - and any other application that requires
ESC then F then X then Yes (or enter) to get the hell out of it !

With Arachne (and anything else decent) ONE ESC and I'm GONE.<g>

Don't get me wrong, I'm not panning Baslinux, I didn't like links from
first time I tried it - when PygmyLinux switched to it from Lynx. :((

Back to my level of experience with Linux. :)
NOT enough to find the links executeable in less than 5 minutes by
going thru every directory I could find from the ?bash? prompt.

See, I wanted to see if you could afford to lose links and add mc.
I think mc is what the newbies (like me) need.
I finally found links. It was about 428k.

I rebooted to Dragonlinux (20 sec) and using mc I was able to find
its size in less than 10 sec. Better than 5 mins, but I guess I now
knew where to look - so the comparison isn't QUITE fair - but still
it's a lot easier to navigate that way.
Midnight Commander: 368k. Hmmm.
Ok, what about browsing ?
Lynx: 249k Hmmm. Is that bad ?

Would there be 720k available if links disappeared ?
Could I do it myself ?
I mean, could I mount my HD and lift mc and lynx out of Dragonlinux ?
It's almost 4 in the morning and I can ask that question in 10-20 secs
while trying to do it would surely cost me several hours. <G>

I see you are doing a lot with busybox. I'm guessing it's sort of a
translator ? Could you explain ?

On a different note, (curiousity only) I know it isn't YOUR fault
but why the heck does "ls" take 59k ?

Thanks Steven, I think Basiclinux is terrific !
It's certainly worth a try, and it's a SAFE try because it doesn't
mess with your hard disk. ;-)
