  Actually, it was Steven who wrote that.  I personally
feel that 386's should be swept off the desktop and
relegated to duties such as kiln control, weather
monitoring and other such industrial activities.
Of course, I'd still run Linux on those machines.

  Which toe?  ;-)

  If there's no CD-ROM and very limited hard drive 
space, I'd probably go with Slackware (or Steven's
Slackware-derivative).

  If there is a CD, and you have at least ~300MB on
the HD, I'd go with Red Hat 6.2.  I'd probably also
recommend any of the older distributions that were
around when VLB was more common.  I do know through
personal experience that Red Hat 7.1 will not install
on my VLB machine, while Red Hat 6.2 does so without
complaint.  (For that matter, the latest FreeBSD 
also goes onto VLB without complaint)
