from Sam Ewalt: > I'm not up on my Netscape versions. Why 3.04? Was that the one before it expanded to Communicator?
> Aren't they up to 6 or 7 by now? For everyday web browsing are you giving up much functionality with 3.04? I'm not sure what's the latest Netscape, but they get more bloated, RAM-hogging, as the version number increases. I found Netscape Communicator 4.04 for OS/2 Warp 4 too slow for general use on the Cx486DX2-S at 66 MHz, 20 MB RAM. Once it took 15 minutes to get through the disk churning after I closed the application window. I think Netscape 6 requires 64 MB or more RAM: not suitable for a SurvPC. By the way, I found the newsgroup for that article cited by Message-ID on the subject of New Deal: comp.os.geos.misc I made a .BAT file by putting "lynx " in front of the news:(Message-ID) URL and inserting the IP address of the news server (with appropriate forward slashes). It worked! I got the article.
