Last year I proved to my own satisfaction that surfing with a cache
that is too full can often be the cause of the red squares. I surf
with both Multitasking and HTTPkeepAlive off. I am using Arachne
1.70. Last year I found a URL that had many very high resolution
large JPGs and with very little text. (The URL consisted of a
collection of photographs of fine antique pistols, some of them
being shown approximately as actual size. This web page no longer
exists.) It took a very long time to load. All the images were
displayed, but only when I would access the URL when the cache
was almost completely empty. I tried the same experiment over and
over, always with the same results, always getting red squares
whenever I would try to access the page without having an almost
empty cache. I reported the experiment to the list and I posted
the tested URL. A few other list members tried it and they
reported getting the same results.
