You have to ask the ISP how many modems they have connected to a
"single" phone line.

It's a lot like a PBX ... one phone number gets you there, then an
operator or computer gives you the specific extension you want/need.

If an ISP has T1 and the servers have enough modems attached, it could
well be 1,000 opportunities to connect [not lines ... modems].
