In my own experience, getting DOS to run on older hardware has not
been a problem.

My back-up machine is a '486, 33 MHz, slow COM ports. It runs
Arachne 1.66, slowly but successfully, and does internet and email.
It also plays MIDIs on a cheap AdLib clone soundcard.

The functionality of your Sony card will depend on what chip is on
it. Chances are good that it can be pursuaded to play MIDIs at least in
DOS, and possibly even WAV, AU and AIF.
