Hello...
Bad news keep on coming
Yahoo Mail will switch to a new web interface starting from July. I've
just been on the site and tested it. It's basically the same, but with
more javascript. For instnce, javascript functions have been tied to some
buttons like "Delete", making them unusable for non-js browsers. Even the
javascript aware graphical Links fails to use them, because it seems that
the required mechanism is not implemented yet. The rest of the changes are
mainly cosmetical.
They recomend using IE5 or newer or Netscape 6, but the new stuff works
OK using Netscape 4.61.
They have a feedback form there. I've issued a protest, but, chances of
someone to care about it, or even notice it are very small, as I am from
Romania and we don't count as Yahoo can't yet make a profit on our behalf
:). The commercials there are still useless for me, as they are mainly
targeted for US people. Maybe someone with more pleeding talent then me
should explain them that the average download time for their pages
increases, the servers load increases, the reliability decreases, the
yearly overall cost per user should increase at a greater rate then their
revenues or income from commercials, and so, their profits should be
smaller. I've heard that they're already experiencing financial
dificulties, so, this should ring a bell there.
