et al, I fired up 1.69, running in big RAMDisk, download the .APM from arachne.cz, APMManager installs it, says it put ikon somewhere, gives me the F2 option, and all is well.
I just used it less than 1 month ago. Now, it doesn't work.. I tried it in 1.71ue01, and it doesn't work there, either. PROCEDURE: 1. F10 or ALT-F2 to "Accessible Drives" 2. Click on drive I want, click down through directory structure until I see the .PDF file I want. 3. Click on that .PDF file. 4. Should run the .PDF file thru PDFTOTEX (located in X:\ARACHNE) and display the result-text on the screen, where it can be F2-saved. SYMPTOMS: 1. At the "Click on .PDF file" step, Arachne shells-out to blackDOS screen, with blinking "underline cursor" in upper left; 2. HDD Disk Access starts flashing, after a 3-6second access-activity period; 3. ERROR Message - "Command or filename not recognized" is given five times; 4. If I ALT-E, and issue the command "PDFTOTEX" at the commandline, the program is found and returns its HELP information screen. 5. I check the MIME.CFG in the working X:\ARACHNE directory, and MIME.CFG has - "file/.pdf TXT|@$epdftotex.exe $1 $2" down at the end where the APMMgr placed it when it installed it. 6. I ALT-E, logged into the X:\ARACHNE which is operating; 7. manually issue the PDFTOTEX Y:\DIR1\FILENAME.PDF (where I KNOW that FILENAME.PDF is now residing), and; 8. Same ERROR message is returned five straight times. LOGIC: 1. The program PDFTOTEX, itself, is being found, witness it returns its HELP info when invoked with only its .EXE-name... 2. PDFTOTEX.EXE must be actually running, since it gives no immediate error message, and does access the HDD for about 5-seconds. 3. The ERROR message is identical to the DOS "Command or filename not recognized" message issued for this DRDOS6.0, so, therefore, it is most likely the DOS that is returning this error message, not the PDFTOTEX.EXE or some other program. 4. The five-times DOS error message must be being returned to the running PDFTOTEX.EXE which is trying to access an unfound file five times, or trying to access five different unfound files in a row. QUESTION: 1. What program/programs does PDFTOTEX call when it trys to do a conversion...? 2. Could this be a DPMI-proggy...?? 3. What other proggy might it be..?? 4. What other ways can PDFTOTEX be invoked to convert a .PDF file..?? .....gregy PS...remember, I haven't changed my installation/setup since I used this about a month ago.
