It should not be a matter in question, but I feel I need to clarify some
very important aspects of my beliefs about this war ...

Even though I don't think our men and women belong there, doing what
they are doing, I want them safe and sound. Every death diminishes each
of us ... each loss is a loss to all of us, not just "the nation" and
not just the families and friends.

If I were asked to go there and serve as a medic, or to train others for
medic duties, I would go ... be it now or later, soldier or civilian in
need of help.

However, I'd want to take my dog with me ... for our mutual sanity. And
no, that's not a wisecrack nor is it meant to demean the seriousness of
the situation. She has been my therapy dog for two years, and few would
fail to benefit from her love and trust of all humankind. To heal,
to help others to heal themselves, is a matter of not just body -- it is
also very much a matter of spirit/soul/inner being. Unquestioning,
non-judgmental love can be a big part of that. Those I come in contact
with may not trust me, but a dog cannot lie about its true feelings.

Perhaps that is why dogs only live at the White House, and never get
elected to political office. <G>
