Glenn, Thanks for all the hard work on Arachne GPL.
Now that you're the official 'chief programmer' (cook, bottle washer, etc.), can I lobby again for a future version that removes the all the 'key codes' from CORE.exe and places them in a separate (easy to modify) file - to be loaded upon initialization. The reason for this is that some countries prohibit their citizens from accessing the internet or using electronic communication programs. Unless all traces of connectivity were removed from the basic code, the customs thugs and secret police in those locations (North Korean is one, Iraq was a few months ago) would confiscate the program and imprison any citizen who had a copy of the program. Yes, I'm well aware that Arachne was designed to be a browser, but it also functions beautifully as an off-line viewer, which makes it a great information kiosk or learning platform (due to it's capability to hyperlink pages, handle graphics, and shell out to other programs). If the key codes (and hardwired graphics background) were loaded separately from CORE, then it would be possible to use it anywhere by simply changing the *key codes file* and *skin* and reassembling an installation disk devoid of any electronic connectivity. Such a change would allow immediate use of Arachne globally by maintaining the core viewer elements, while allowing email and internet browser capability to be added later as an APM. Combine that change with the availability of old 486 and early-Pentium computers and we would have an ideal (and free) system that could function anywhere (even in a remote village by using car batteries) and would be acceptable by even the most repressive governments. Thanks, chief.
