Hi list,

when I started to clean up hard disks I found quite a few
Arachne issues that I would like to share with or even to solve
with someone's help.

The first one is this:

Glenn's Arachne 171UE includes as an alternative
dialer and driver David Landauer's lsppp.exe (version 0.7x). It is a
smaller smaller and newer packet driver program still supported by its
author that could probably entirely replace epppd.exe AND
miniterm.exe. But I discovered:

1. With some providers and some lower end PC lsppp oviously
does not connect as well as epppd. Therefore to replace one program
by the other would probably not be a good idea. Has anybody
experienced a considerable increase in performance with lsppp?

2. The latest version of lsppp 0.8 not yet included in
Glenn's distribution behaves differently than epppd. In arachne.cfg it
has to be written to only ONE line:

----------------- lsppp.acf 0.8 ----------------
Profile LSPPP.ACF
Connection READY
Hangup @termin.com 0x60>NUL

[dialer]
DialPage file:ppp_fast.htm
Dialer @LSPPP.EXE>PPP.LOG
-----------------------------------------------------

instead of the old way

----------------- lsppp.acf 0.7 ----------------
Connection @lsppp.exe>>PPP.LOG
Hangup @termin.com 0x60>NUL

[dialer]
DialPage file:ppp_fast.htm
Dialer @lsppp.exe>PPP.LOG
-----------------------------------------------------

Is there a reason to use or not to use the last version?
What is your experience?

Regards
Christof Lange
