Pretending to go into business as a spammer would be the very
best way to find out how they operate. I did that once with
the world of "mail order opportunities". Quite an education!
What I discovered is that the real money was being made by
the people who serviced this huge sub-culture of "opportunity
seekers" with mailing lists and materials. The prime seller was
books and tapes advising how other people could get into the
business!! Dreamers who want to get rich without effort were
ready to fork over their cash to "experts" who would show them
how to make a killing the easy way. There were tons of people
trying to promote the same cheesy offers such as chain letters
and pyramid schemes. "Hello, my name is Dave Rhodes" began one
infamous chain letter that I once got by the hundreds.

I bet spam is the same way. The "consultants" and "experts" make
money selling CD's of email addresses and how to books to the
great army of clueless dreamers who clog our inboxes with endless
varieties of the same offer. That's where the money is.

So, set up a seperate account and answer all the spam you get and
see what happens over three or four months. You'll start to see
what's going on after awhile. It's not what you think at all.
