I presumed that Glynn was responding to "subtask A - tie into
the existing SAC infrastructure" when he was actually following up on
"C. We need to make OS.o the host for these aliases". From that
perspective, +1 to Glynn's comments. Sorry for any confusion.
From a pure "outside sun" perspective, of course the whole process
should be accessed thru SomeAlias at opensolaris.org. The PSARC-EXT at Sun
discussion is (effectively) an implementation detail that may become
irrelevant someday, depending on how easy it becomes to build tools
that live and run on opensolaris.org.
As things stand today, we have two aliases on OpenSolaris today:
arc-discuss - this alias
opensolaris-arc - the other one :-)
I was assuming that the opensolaris-arc alias would become the
OpenSolaris equivalent of Sun's PSARC alias, with the TODO task to
create additional infrastructure to support it (i.e., the core
contributer role holders of all the OS.o communities as well as the
current PSARC members and interns should all be auto-subscribed to this
alias...)
We should also set things up so that arc community observers
automatically get added to the -interest alias so that they can observe
the ARC discussions as they happen. (why this isn't the case today
is a bit beyond me - the coordination between mailman, jive and the web
site with regard to moderation, subscription and the like is horrible,
but I digress)
The above easily solves the "how do I subscribe" question - you don't.
At least, not explicitly. You become an ARC member by virtue of being
selected as a core contributer in your community, or you choose to
observe the ARC community, and get added to the interest list.
Bootstrapping all this will require adding Sun ARC members/interns to
these lists, but that can be done with today's infrastructure (presuming
that the "can't post unless you are specifically subscribed" bug is
fixed...)
