Of course, it is important that the list is not jumbled up, but sorted lexically so that you can see and scan the Haskell and Gambas packages as a block, for example. And this is where the difference in approach comes into play. If you don't have anything like Haskell or Gambas installed, a columnar list might actually be clearer. On the other hand, familiarity with release model distros may also play a role, because a release model distro will hardly update countless Haskell packages, for example. In this regard, some users (perhaps not the OP) may need to adjust. Be that as it may, fortunately the user has a choice.
