I will only comment on this subject:

I think it's a great idea as it gives the packages an identity that it needs so 
when people see it they and know it belongs to Arch.
i.e. foo.rpm -> RedHat/Mandrake
foo.deb -> Debian
foo.pac -> Arch/pacman
