Subject: RE: [arch] For the life of me why Arch /windows dual boot not wor king?

I am told that such a setup will screw my pc up because of the compaq partition on the first harddisk. Apperently manufactures like compaq have custom booting sequences and overwriting the main boot record will mess the pc up. That is why i have avoided this method. So until i am absolutly sure that, such a setup will work, i'm avoiding it. Thanks for your help though. Its much appreciated.

Dell does something similar.  I think they use that partition for one or both of the following: 1) a suspend-to-disk space, and 2) diagnostic tools.  So I was always under the impression that it's OK to overwrite the boot record, but just not to delete that partition.  But if you don't care about either of those 2 features, it probably wouldn't even be a problem if you did delete the partition.

This is just my recollection, though, and I may be wrong, so I'd strongly advise you to verify this thoroughly before you do anything like this.
