In the release notes of glibc 2.3.5 there was a notice about 2.3.6 that
will get released once gcc 4.0 is stable.
Since gcc 4.0 is only out for a few moments now, I think it's best to
wait until glibc 2.3.6 comes out. The Gentoo people advise the same:

I don't think it's a bad idea to wait for the next glibc release and
start switching to gcc 4.0 then.
As the blog post says, gcc 4.0 should be compatible with gcc 3.4, so we
don't have to recompile the whole distro in one day to get gcc 4.0 moved
to current.

According the Redhat Mailing List the current snapshot is fully GCC 4.0
compatible. So why don't we upgrade? Some people talked about 5% - 10%
more speed.
