After some poking around, I seem to have figured out interwiki linking (thanks to some friendly chap in #mediawiki).

Notice the "other languages" link on the left side. Currently the url just points to itself...

Generally it works like this: you have a mediawiki install for each language. They are called "projects". Then you create your interwiki designations in the database, and if a user attaches the link in their page, it shows up in the sidebar.

That is how wikipedia does it. They have en.wikipedia.org, sp.wikipedia.org, etc.

There might be a way to kludge it all to fit into a single wiki, by using a prepend to just modify the url...I will poke around a bit more.
