LOL! I make me laugh!
Looking through the rc.sysinit cvs changelog I can see that Judd
actually made commits to cvs to include the stuff we were talking about
at the time so what i was suggesting went straight in - hilariously tho
i guess i missed the changes in the last initscripts version release in
the gensplash-initscripts so have been a bit confused!
/me shakes head in amazement at own daftness

The new procps has added a sysctl.conf file which is causing some
people problems - how is the this file being sourced without anything
in the initscripts to source it? Is it actually automatically sourced
and my patch was a ridiculous oversight?

That was actually where I originally put i t. I'll move it back.
Ok. Done. It is now right at the end before rc.multi starts the
daemons.

Sure there of plenty of reasons why it should be later so you >best

It needs to be done after the modules in rc.conf are loaded. The
mplayer setting, for example, needs the rtc module to be loaded or
else there won't be any /proc/sys/dev/rtc.

This does seem pretty fair to me, I dont see why rc.sysinit can't
do a
sysctl -p if /etc/sysctl.conf exists - then just need to an
instruction to
the mplayer.install to tell you to make sysctl.conf and add the
command -
everybody is happy then!

However, why is an mplayer setting in rc.sysinit? I don't use
mplayer,
my server doesn't use mplayer - so why do they have this setting?
Same thing: why is stuff about console fonts there?
_My_ server does not have a screen! What's the difference?
Anyway, we are talking mainly about "sysctl -p" belonging there.
And that's a very flexible thing; the mplayer line _could_ then be
added to /etc/sysctl.conf (and I advocate this, but that is out
of rc.sysinit) - or not.
Kind regards,
Leslie
