scim you can compile without gtk2 (disabling it in ./configure) but the
problem is another one: how do i split scim in libscim and scim? if you
compile scim without gtk interface (make it a lib wihtout much standalone
function), the package per se is very much handicapped and you need then
either the gtk2 interface (the new scim pkg) or the skim pkg to at least
have something with original features.
i'm not yet sure if it is worth messing with scim too much (there are no
docs where it is suggested to split scim in libscim and scim)
the funny thing is what happens if you have scim and skim installed, work
in xfce4 and use kmail. is skim or scim showing you the input GUI? (i'm
exactly in this situation and in kmail (without skim installed) scim
simply is ignored - respectively the CTRL-Space combination do not
trigger anything in kmail but works perfectly in abiword)

| Only advantage that FCITX offers beyond SCIM or GCIN is its X
| dependency only, which makes it lighter and simpler, which is the
| meaning of its exist in my point of view. So if you ask if it's worth
| to be included in the extra, I will speak loudly Yes, please. You know
| not everybody using gtk2 and even many Chinese gnome or xfce fans use
| it to input Chinese. Its developer calls it "toy" because he writes it
| for fun, but in Chinese we call it "little tux".
fcitx is added to [extra]. i'm not perfectly sure if it is working how it
should. i tried and it works, but now having some experience, i prefer
scim. (gcin is also not bad but lacks some nice features scim has).
please make sure you test fcitx and report if everything is ok for you
too. thx

| You are really a fast-learner. "下载" pronounces "sha'za" that's what I
| like the best to do when I am surfing, :-).
thank you! may i ask you to help me with this ones?
搜 means search for something, right?
页=page 网=net -> 页网=internet? (=net of pages?)
thanx + greetings,
