It is important enough to be in slackware's A package set. My guess is that it is included in most other distros.
Obviously this package can't be that important because: a) I've honestly never heard of it and can't even bring myself to care enough to click the link b) No one has brought this up yet in all the history of Arch
This package *can* be that important because it is THE tool for monitoring hard disks, and there is *no* equivalent currently in arch (hddtemp is just a toy script compared to this). Monitoring the disks via S.M.A.R.T. can prove lifesaving for servers, since it mentions hard disk subsystem failures before the disk totally fails!
Of course if I'm the only one wanting this package in current or extra, it shouldn't be included.
