Hi Archers,

if you boot one of the modern kernel26's and you are using pcmcia-cs
without hotplug/pcmciautils running on your machine, you will notice this
message in your dmesg output:

[17179622.860000] pcmcia: Detected deprecated PCMCIA ioctl usage.
[17179622.860000] pcmcia: This interface will soon be removed from the
kernel; please expect breakage unless you upgrade to new tools.
[17179622.860000] pcmcia: see
http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/utils/kernel/pcmcia/pcmcia.html for
details.

ok, you may ask why i'm not using hotplug. the reason is this:

[EMAIL PROTECTED] damir]# date && /etc/rc.d/hotplug restart && date
Wed Oct 26 00:51:44 CEST 2005
:: Starting Hotplug Daemon          [DONE]
Wed Oct 26 00:52:21 CEST 2005

this thing takes about a minute to start!

of course you may say that at startup, you can background it. this is
correct, but then, if the network controler is a pcmcia card, you have to
make network wait untill hotplug is up. this is not easy done in vanilla,
as far i know. (without filling the gap with start of other daemons or
waiting this minute doing nothing)

the main question to me is, why hotplug takes so long to start.

to all with pcmcia in usage: do you experience the same?

thanx in advance + greetings,
Damir
