Quite an intro.  It sounds like Arch is what you're looking for. 
Someone's old addage was that Arch ends disto hopping.  I couldn't
agree more.  Arch, more than any other distro I've seen, gets those
reports of "so I tried X,Y,Z, and even Q, but when I came across Arch,
I was set!".

I remember the first time trying Arch, my reaction was "Holy crap!" -
not because of speed or anything like that... it was just that
everything was there, everything was in place.  It just made sense.

Welcome to Arch, yet again.  If you have any issues, don't hesitate to
ask, though you do tend to get faster responses on the forums
(bbs.archlinux.org) or in irc (#archlinux)
