I had quite a similar reaction when I discovered Arch some months ago.

I was an old RH, and Mandrake user... When I tried to install the
latest Mandriva (2005LE) I discovered a very annoying bug...

I thought it may be a problem with Mdv2005 and I decided to try (in no
particular order) (k)ubuntu, FC4, etc... All those recent distros
always raise the same and annoying bug (which lead me to thing is it
something wrong with recent distros since booting an "old" Mandrake
10.1 makes this bug disappear).

After all these unsuccessful tests, I saw some guys talking about
ArchLinux on linuxfr.org and I saw a URL on distrowatch with an
interview of Judd where he says something like: "Arch is always up to
date. Install it once and keep it updated with pacman".

The small sentence seemed to describe exactly the kind of distro I was
searching for ages. So I decided to give it a try and (after a short
period to understand the basics) I felt in love with Arch.

Unfortunately my @[EMAIL PROTECTED] and really annoying bug is still here... But
I thank this bug, without it I would probably still be a Mandriva user
:).

That is just a question of weeks/months. I was planning to buy a new
PC in 1 or 2 years and I think I'll buy it sooner than it was planned.

Gilles.

PS: Sorry for my english !
