I confess that there is some hyperbole in my statement, but it's  
expressed out of frustration; in addition, as a doc person, I enjoy  
the excuse to use the word "hyperbole".

I  believe the culprit is either the kernel or xorg; things are fine  
from the command-line, but if I (can) logon to Gnome, the system  
freezes within thirty-seconds.  This does mark some progress,   
however, since earlier I was unable to even boot into arch.

In a follow-up email, I'll provide additional details about the  
situation. I promise it will be more constructive than the first.
