I believe the culprit is either the kernel or xorg; things are fine from the command-line, but if I (can) logon to Gnome, the system freezes within thirty-seconds. This does mark some progress, however, since earlier I was unable to even boot into arch. In a follow-up email, I'll provide additional details about the situation. I promise it will be more constructive than the first. Thanks, Judd, for your response. Paul > A pre2 probably wouldn't help much at this point, > since I don't know what to fix (all is worky here).
