hi,
lately i have been expering a lot of desktop freezing. Happens about
once a day. sometimes the mouse can be used but i can't click on
anything and the keyboard is dead, other times everything freezes even
the mouse. I can't even use ctrl-alt-backspace to quit X. have to just
reboot the computer.
i run arch 0.7.1
on amd athlon xp
anybody an idea what could be going on?
By any chance, could that be a hardware problem?
possible, how would i found out though?
You can use memtest86+ to check your memory. Also, if you're using kernel
2.6.15, try downgrading to 2.6.14.x I've also experienced hard freezes. I
haven't really pin-point the root of the problem yet but I haven't had any
freezes since downgrading to kernel 2.6.14.5-1

downgrading the kernel sounds good... but also you can try to find out
if the power fan, cpu fan, etc... works properly. Maybe , your cpu is
getting too hot and your mother board mabybe locking your system... Try
to check (if your BIOS supports) how hot your cpu is. Then, check your
hardware manuals and see it if the value is within the exceptable
range...
I hope you've got nothing wrong your with hardware, cos I hate hardware
problems!!!!
