I did try your suggestion. I commented out those lines in modprobe.conf, and removed the modules from rc.conf, rebooted, and the module did not autoload. I apologize, had undone the changes before I sent them to you, which is probably what you had in mind :) Sorry if I'm a bit slow here, I've worked 80 hours in the last 7 days and am running on very little sleep.
