Glibc cannot be updated to 2.4 since it completely drops linuxthreads support, and hence 2.4 series of linux kernel is obsoleted. This is not easy for arch, since it officially supports the kernel24 package. Seriously, at this stage, how many people really want a 2.4 series, and for what reason ?!
