Hi everybody,

I've kept playing yesterday with FreeNX (couldnt' have it working properly
with a new KDE session - might be a completely different issue). I haven't
touched X.org's config files except for removing the "-nolisten tcp" from
KDM's configuration files.

FreeNX kind of works, meaning that:
* I start an NX session remotely
* I get a blank screen on :1000 let's say
* in a separate shell, I start a konosole with:
konsole -display :1000 -e "startkde" which start KDE inside that screen -
everything works afterwards

Today, I've started the computer and noticed I couldn't switch from KDM to any
console. Also, I couldn't type anything in KDM. Only the keypad works -
strangely.

Managed to get a console active by selecting with the mouse "switch to
console" and searched the forums using lynx. Found a topic saying that
somebody fixed not-working-keyboard by exporting
XKEYSYMDB=/usr/share/X11/XKeysymDB (hope I got it right) before starting X.

I managed to make KDM output its error log to a separate file (see attachment)
and noticed that I got exactly the same errors as the forum poster.

I'm writing this mail from a KDE session started by console login + export
that variable + startx, which works. If I don't export the variable, I get X
to work but no keyboard, exactly as it happens in KDM - fortunately, the
mouse works so I can end the session.

I wouldn't like to touch the files in /etc/profile.d to add this export there
(don't even know if it would work) without asking if there's another way to
fix this.

Note that your system uses syslog. All of kdm's internally generated messages
(i.e., not from libraries and external programs/scripts it uses) go to the
daemon.* syslog facility; check your syslog configuration to find out to which
file(s) it is logged. PAM logs messages related to authentication to authpriv.*.
