If you want graphical > bootup, try initscripts-gensplash from community. > Yes James, that's just what I wanted to install (gensplash stuff), but I got my attention focused on the configuration of a system that should be eye candy + very easily usable by the 95% computer noob I'm selling it to, on a small laptop that can"t afford Gnome or KDE, and you know there wasn't any warning or something when getting iniscripts-bootsplash :( Anyway everything went back to normal, thanks to your prompt advice. Eventually the old man was very happy to see how eye candy is his new unexpensive laptop.
