I have already tried it.  Today I recovered my other VMmare machine
this way (after one of glibc's .so was accidentally corrupted) and
_those_ machine is now working again. But _this_ machine still does
not boot after unpacking glibc... I don't know why...
Of course if nothing helps I simply delete this machine and make
another one with VMware, but it is still interesting to know what
could cause such serious problem and how to fix it (in case this
happens with real machine once)...
