I had to set up my wife's for the same reason. After thinking about it it made sense to me. Using top posting in a causal e'mail with one or two readers probably makes sense. They're familiar with the body of the text. Using bottom posting with appropriate trimming makes more sense in large group or user group postings. It helps unfamiliar readers gain context. This is helpful if you are joining in the middle of a thread.
