sorry, guys, if this might be an "old" thread, but... the problem was
never actually resolved (in a way), and i believe that i have
something to add to the discussion. (*To see the archive of the

Anyway, the cause of the problem for me (and i believe for a lot of
folks as well) was the ftp.nethat.com mirror (*I have yet to detect
any problems with any other mirrors, but then again, I havent been
analyzing my traffic for that long). Seems like the mirror was
occasionally not letting anonymous users ('[EMAIL PROTECTED]') login due to a
10(?!!)-user limit.

If u do a dump of the traffic to the nethat mirror, you will encounter
the following text when the 10-user limit is reached...

530 Sorry, the maximum number of allowed clients (10) are already connected.
------

Hope that helps somebody out. In the meantime, what's with the
'Control socket read failed: Success' message? Does it mean to say
that "I succeeded in failing"?, or what?
