The upgrade/add code is not quite the same as the sync code, although
our goal for the next release is to unify these two sections of code
so behavior is nearly identical between both. Pulling in dependencies
is still a purely sync operation for now.

Thanks for the response! We are glad it is working just fine for a lot
of people, it makes us feel pretty confident about releasing soon.
